“Would like to see logs & stats in the app.”
“Strategies would help - if you’re a runner, here’s what you should be thinking about. Here’s how to maximize the hour. I think that would be really useful.”
We focused on engagement and education. For us this meant activity tracking and content. We began with competitive analysis giving us insights into common patterns.
Tracking: Wireframing allows for quick exploration of ideas. Goal setting and streaks as well as a dashboard and history had potential. We prioritized history and reminders.
Content: Finding patterns that provide easy access to a breadth and depth of videos and other educational materials.
Reminders drive engagement and lead to users seeing better results. The initial implementation is like a workout preview, reminding you of a set time each day.
Response from users through usability testing and customer support was positive. From the release through to the end of the year we saw our app store rating improve eventually reaching 4.6 on Itunes and 4 on the Playstore and our retention improved by 2%.
While it is important to move quickly and iterate if the organization is not able to move forward you are left with features that feel incomplete. Given our time and resource constraints we built a solid foundation for a richer feature set down the road. We were not able to fully expand on the what we had started due to organizational challenges. In the future, I think the way to overcome this is a strong commitment to a shared vision of the product.
